3 Tips For Whiter Teeth

Most people want whiter teeth and there are some out there who will go to very expensive lengths to get them. A large majority of people also feel self-conscious when it comes to their smile – even when there is nothing wrong with their teeth – so it’s no wonder why this is the case.

Over time, everybody’s teeth get duller as our enamel becomes thinner and more transparent. Enamel – the white coating on teeth – wears down over time, exposing the darker dentin beneath. Whilst enamel erodes over time, certain foods, drinks, and other products can cause this process to speed up, leading to much quicker erosion of the enamel and yellower teeth at an early age.

There are many ways you can look after your smile and improve the look of your teeth.

#1: Visit a Cosmetic Dentist

Cosmetic dentists such as the Perfect Smile Spa are specialists who focus on the look of teeth. Cosmetic dentists are ideal for people who have had their enamel erode over a longer period of time and home-based remedies are no longer proving effective.

From bleaching to veneers and every cosmetic dental procedure in between, cosmetic dentists are by far the best solution to dull-looking teeth if you have the money to spend on your smile. Cosmetic dentistry is not as expensive as it used to be, and there are plenty of affordable routines and payment plans in place which means that everybody can get the smile they want.

#2: Cut Out the Rubbish

There is nothing wrong with indulging in the odd glass of red wine, black tea or cola, however, these will cause teeth to go darker over time. The general rule is that foods and drinks which are dark or cause staining will also cause teeth to appear darker and stained.

When you do indulge foods and drink which can promote the staining of teeth or erosion of enamel (namely fizzy drinks and sugar), then brush your teeth as soon as possible after to remove the staining before it becomes a problem and stop any erosion in its tracks.

#3: Change Your Toothbrush

We are not talking about buying the fanciest, most expensive toothbrush you can afford. Rather, we are saying that you should be changing your toothbrush every so often as, over time, the bristles on a toothbrush get worn down and they are no longer able to effectively clean teeth.

Also, ensure you are brushing properly – brush in a circular motion at a 45-degree angle against your gums and avoid doing the classic back-to-back brushing motion, as this removes less plaque and grime. Ensure that you are gripping the toothbrush hard to avoid over-scrubbing your teeth and ensure that you are avoiding these other brushing mistakes.

White teeth aren’t just for Hollywood’s rich and famous; anybody who wants them can have them, even if you have subjected them to years of neglect. With the right oral hygiene, you can easily keep teeth whiter for longer.
