Smart Lipo: The Less Invasive Fat Reduction Procedure

Not all of us are blessed with beautifully toned skin and a figure that most people envy.  There are a great number of us who still have to battle stubborn areas of fat and cellulite that just won’t budge, no matter how much we exercise and change up our diets.  When these kinds of body issues start to impede on our confidence levels, it is only natural to want to research other ways of getting the body we have dreamed of.  However, cosmetic surgery can seem like an extreme measure to take, especially when the only image you have of liposuction is being put to sleep and having to deal with nasty bruising and scarring.  But, there is another form of cosmetic surgery that may be the answer you have been looking for – Smart Lipo.

What is Smart Lipo?

Smart Lipo is a form of liposuction performed by a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.  First introduced to the UK by Dr Ayham Al-Ayoubi of the London Medical and Aesthetic Clinic, this procedure involves the use of a calibrated laser beam that is inserted under the skin via a cannula.  The laser destroys the fat membrane using its thermal energy, transforming the cells into a liquefied form that can be eliminated by the body’s circulatory system.  Usually performed under a local anaesthetic, the procedure is virtually painless for the patient.

How is it Different to Liposuction?

As Smart Lipo uses more of a targeted approach, it is usually suggested as an efficient method for removing smaller areas of fat, such as around the arms, neck, and face.  With the smaller instruments used, the surgeon is able to work close to the surface of the skin causing a tightening effect not seen with traditional liposuction.  Traditional liposuction is more often used on patients with larger amounts of fat and involves the removal of the fat via suction.  The results, therefore, can often leave them with sagging skin and a longer recovery time.  Smart Lipo is a less invasive treatment and causes less swelling and bruising compared to a traditional liposuction treatment.

More Common Than You Think

Cosmetic surgery is on the rise in the UK with over 5,000 people undergoing some form of liposuction in the year 2015.  This makes it the second most popular cosmetic procedure next to breast augmentations.  While traditional liposuction deters those wanting fast results, Smart Lipo has increased in popularity due to its relatively quick treatment time and only around a week’s recovery time.  New advances in technology have meant that procedures like Smart Lipo can provide better results with fewer risks.  With prices starting from £2,000, it has become a popular topic in the beauty industry with some even nicknaming it ‘lunchtime lipo’.

While you may be feeling like you are stuck with a body that you are not 100% happy with, there are other avenues to go down when you have exhausted all efforts in trying to lead a healthy lifestyle.  As always, make sure you do the relevant research and find a reputable clinic before going ahead with any procedure.
