How To Make Living, Working and Sleeping At Home More Enjoyable

With the introduction of the World Wide Web in early 1990, it allowed employees to start the trend of working away from the office. Today, nearly 25 percent of employees work from home in some capacity. There are pros and cons to working from home. For one, it requires self-discipline and the ability to work independently without the need for direction. On the positive side, you can create your own hours and enjoy quality time with friends and family. In order to achieve this, you need to set up your home so that it’s functional and healthy for entertaining, work and sleep.

Importance of Adequate Amounts of Sleep

Sleep is essential to your overall health. In fact, most doctors recommend that you get 7 to 8 sound hours of sleep. If you have distractions that prevent you from falling asleep try making some changes to your nightly routine. In order to fall asleep, you need to feel tired. To achieve this you should eliminate anything that has sugar or caffeine by 7:00 P.M. The second rule is to turn your computer off to avoid watching new work enter the queue or corrections you may need to address. Both of those items will still be there in the morning, a time when you are more alert. It may also be your mattress that prevents you from sleeping. If it’s more than 7 years you may need to replace it. Places like Bedding Mart have many choices available. This will allow you to get comfortable and fall into a deep sleep.

Creating a Work Schedule

One of the many benefits of working from home is the disposing of the 9 to 5 work week. When you work from home you have the ability to set up your own schedule. That means if you prefer working 12-8 those are the hours you work. Unfortunately, many people tend to work split shifts so that they can enjoy afternoon activities with their children. This can lead to working from your computer until 8, 9 or even 10:00 at night. The problem with this is that once you stop working you still need to unwind. This can place you in bed after 12:00 and if you need to ready children for school it can prevent you from getting adequate amounts of sleep, leaving you feeling lethargic and unfocused. On days where you have activities in the middle of the day it’s best to stay in your routine and call it quits at 7 to 8 at night and double up your workload the next few days.

A Separate Space for Your Office

Establishing a separate space, preferably a room with a door, for working is important. Having the proper equipment will also allow you to stay organized and remain comfortable. If you sit for many hours changing to a workstation that gives you the ability to sit and stand can prove beneficial. It will let you work for longer periods of time without the need for continuous breaks. The separate space also lets family members know that you are at work. When you finish working for the day, simply close the door and walk away.

Condition of Your Home

Your home is a place that you spend most of your time in. For this reason, you want it to be a place where you can relax and entertain. Unfortunately, if you work from home you may tend to put many of the regular cleaning tasks off for another day. Also, if you own an older home you may have lead in the paint that can present health issues for you and your family.

Luckily, you can create a safe and healthy indoor environment for family and friends with a few changes. If you didn’t repaint the rooms now’s a great time to do so. It’s also beneficial to give your home a thorough cleaning from top to bottom two times each year and then maintain it for the rest. Dust collects everywhere and the fine particles adhere to most anything. Regular vacuuming of the floors, drapes, and upholstery, as well as regular cleaning of the furniture, will reduce the presence of dust and improve the indoor air quality. If your furniture is older, replacing it with newer items will offer beauty and function, creating an environment that’s both cozy looking and comfortable for relaxing and entertaining.

Working from home is becoming the new normal for many people. It gives you the freedom to entertain, enjoy family outings and work when you want. With focus and discipline, you too can enjoy the work from home lifestyle and all the benefits that come with it.
