Autumn Has Come And It’s Time For Decluttering

Autumn has come, and when we take a look at our homes, there’s a high chance we’re going to find that it’s in quite a messy state. The fact is that in today’s world we tend to buy things in order to achieve some kind of instant gratification, and in the result, we get a house that is full of things that we don’t need.

The truth about clutter is that it creates emotional and mental stress. We end up living in homes where it’s hard to find what we need. Decluttering your home will help you create focus and clarity, reduce stress, and enable you to focus on real-life goals.

Take care of the rubbish

As you declutter your home, you will realize that there’s a lot of rubbish just lying around that you didn’t even notice. This includes old papers, cards, brochures, cardboard boxes, various materials, and the like. You’ll find them all over your home. You should get all that rubbish out of your way, set it aside or bag it up, and soon you’ll realize how much space it had actually been taking up. Throw it in your bins, do some recycling, and if you need help, hire a rubbish removal service.

Time for old things to go

Even though clearing your home is satisfying, a lot of people find it hard to part with certain items that they have collected over time. Colder months are coming, so you’ll be spending more time at home, so it’s a good idea to find the middle ground – make your home a little comfier, while at the same time, keep some of the things that you’ll need while you’re indoors.

What you should do is take some time to go through every room and get rid of items that you really no longer use or need. Make it easier by sticking to a simple rule – any item that hasn’t been worn or used for more than a year needs to go.

Do it step by step

So, you’ve set yourself up with the task of clearing out your home, but you’ve also got a busy schedule. If you can’t dedicate the entire weekend to the job, then try simply doing the deed step by step. Set up weekly goals, like clearing your children’s room or taking care of the garage. It might take you more time than you intended to take, but in a few weeks, your home will look much better and have a lot more space.

Store the things you aren’t using

There are certainly going to be items that you aren’t using at the moment, but you truly don’t feel like throwing away. Lucky for you, in this day and age, there are storage solutions in almost every city, from Iceland to New Zealand. So simply get a hold of a storage service, and store your precious items for the time being.

This is also a good solution for the items that you use during the summer but really don’t need at wintertime. Make it easier for you to get to the items that you are using by making a winter switch out. Store the summer items away, such as summer clothes, picnic baskets and blankets, swimming costumes, and your outdoor sports kit. Bring in the winter clothing, boots, dishes for hot pot and stew, and warm blankets.

Donate

Holidays are coming close, and it could be just the right time to think about donating some of your old things. There is a wide variety of Christmas donation programs which are design to get the gifts to those who would otherwise not get a Christmas present. There is a lot of things that you can donate and make someone happy. It could be toys that your kids are no longer playing with, clothes that you are no longer wearing, toiletries and food.

The 12-12-12 challenge

You can turn the whole ordeal into a game known as the 12-12-12 challenge. The rules of the game are that you need to find 12 items to throw away, 12 items to donate, and 12 items that you get to keep in your home. This is a great activity for the whole family, and you can compete who is going to complete the challenge first.

In Summation

With the cold months at the door, it is high time that you declutter your home in order to create a comfortable, stress-free environment. There is a lot of rubbish that you can throw out. When it comes to old items, you can either decide to throw them out or store them away somewhere. Donating is a very generous thing that you can do as well.
