Watching Super Bowl 53 from Canada – Laying Down the Options

Its 2019 and just a month to go till the 53rd season of the most popular sporting event in North America: the Super Bowl. Tickets are selling out fast, and only a fraction of the billions of people who will be watching the games will get a chance to attend one. For most Canadians, options for watching the Super Bowl live are diverse.

Cable TV

Canadians and Mexicans have a pact with the U.S. to air the Super Bowl live on local cable TVs. Bell Media has once again secured exclusive rights to air the game this year in all three of its channels: CTV, CTV Two, and TSN. All three channels will be airing the game in its entirety only pausing for the occasional ads – you should note that Bell Media will not be airing American big money ads (this is a hot issue to most viewers in the country). On the up-side, Bell Media may yet again introduce another contest like it did last year for those feeling lucky.

Bell Media will also be streaming the Super Bowl live on its online platforms including CTV.ca. Android, iOS, Windows, and Xbox One users can also stream the game live through CTV Go and TSN Go.

Streaming Online

A majority of Canadians will turn to the internet to watch the 53rd season of the Super Bowl. This is because unlike Canadian cable TV, most online streaming channels air the big money commercials that Canadians have come to fall in love with over the past two years. Luckily, there is no shortage of options when it comes to streaming the Super Bowl online.

NFL Game Pass

The easiest way to stream the Super Bowl online is using the Premium NFL Game Pass. Members of the NFL Game Pass can stream the game online from anywhere in the world on a range of devices. There are apps for both Android and iOS users, as well as Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Viewers can also stream the game on their computers, tablets and smart TVs.

Streaming American Channels

A host of Americans channels, including Fox and the NBC, will also be streaming the Super Bowl LIII live on their online platforms. This, however, will be limited to their American users. Nevertheless, Canadians, and virtually anyone in the world, can stream American channels live using the right VPN.

NBC will be broadcasting the game live through its website as well as a variety of other online platforms. Android and iOS users can watch the game live through the NBC Sports App. The NBS Sports App will also be accessible via Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Xbox, and Chrome Cast. However, you should be forewarned that there will be a lot of ads on many of these platforms; and not your favorite kinds of Super Bowl big money ads! It should also be noted that some of these platforms may demand authentication before streaming, so you may need more than just a VPN.

Other online streaming options available include Hulu with Live TV, Sling TV, Fubo TV, PlayStation VUE, and DirecTV Now. Again, you may need to verify authentication to stream via these channels.

Streaming the BBC

Britons and many Europeans across the pond also love watching the Super Bowl. The BBC has exclusive rights to airing the game in the UK, so you also have the option of streaming BBC One, the subsidiary with these exclusive rights.

Just as is the case with American channels, you will need a VPN to stream BBC One. Choose a formidable VPN to bypass blocks and select a server in the UK. You can then choose one out of hundreds of streaming sites to stream BBC One. TVPlayer is the recommended streaming platform as it grants access to thousands of channels across the world, including BBC One. It also offers other conveniences such as recording for offline watching!

Interestingly, it is simpler and cheaper to stream the Super Bowl from the BBC than it is from American channels as the BBC One is free. However, it doesn’t feature the much-debated big money ads that many Canadians clamor online for.

Conclusion

There is no shortage of options to watch the Super Bowl LIII live in Canada. The simplest is switching on your Cable TV on any of Bell Media’s channels. Those who absolutely must watch the big money ads can also stream American channels online. The 2019 Super Bowl starts on February 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
