5 Summertime Essentials You Can’t Go Without

During the colder months, we experience everything from cabin fever to holiday overload. As an escape, many of us long for relaxing days when the sun kisses our skin with its light, be it on the beach or in our yards.

So when the summertime rolls around, we get exactly what we asked for. Sure, we gripe a little on those unbearably hot days. But, hey, at least it’s not snowing.

Summer means spending time in the great outdoors, barbeques with family, pool fun, drifting along the waterfront on your friend’s inflatable boat, and dancing in the sun’s rays like the summer will never end. But when it comes to enjoying this glorious season, you’ll need a lot of things on hand to help you prepare, Here are five essentials to help you cruise through the summer months.

A great pair of sunglasses.

Of course sunglasses can help you make a stylish statement. As usual, classic styles are making a comeback and vintage sunglasses are trending, especially those classic cat-eyes. Aviators and rounded lenses are good choices because they will always be timeless. (Plus they make you look good even on a casual day.) Though sunglasses make us look great, what’s more important is protecting our eyes from harmful UV rays. According to the National Eye Institute, macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of blindness, and pterygium, which can cause astigmatism, can be prevented with a good pair of sunglasses. So don’t forget those shades before you leave the house for a day of summer fun.

Bluetooth speakers

Obviously, one of the most exciting parts about summer is hanging out in the yard with your friends and family. And what better way to get everyone in the summertime mood than music? Thanks to technological advances, we don’t have to be stuck by the speakers when we need to change a song or playlist. You can mingle with guests, dance, or sit by the pool. Bluetooth speakers are amazing, and these days you can get them in travel size without compromising on the sound.

Sunscreen

Probably the most important essential, sunscreen can save you from an irritating burn as well as from skin issues down the line. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using sunscreens that can protect from UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of 30 or higher. They also suggest using water resistant sunscreen. Skin cancers such as melanoma are very common in the US, and sunscreen will help prevent the contraction of those diseases.

A good book

Summer seems to be the only time you get to read a good book. But how do you figure out which book to choose? And do you want fiction, crime, politics or history? Fortunately, many publications and websites create lists of the best reads each year.

A day of baseball

Summer is the season for the national pastime. A day at a baseball game with the family creates unforgettable memories. Sure, the little kids might focus on the hot dogs, ice cream, and the shenanigans of the mascot. But older kids and adults will appreciated the crack of the bats, the cheers of the crowd, and the spectacular plays.

If you don’t live near a pro-baseball stadium, but sure to check out the games at minor league parks all over the US.

These essentials will help you have an amazing and memorable summer.
